Simple Lesson Plan

Students will learn the 28 letters of the Arabic alphabet by using an iPad app and YouTube video. They will be able to accurately pronounce each letter after memorizing them. The lesson will introduce students to the proper pronunciation of some challenging letters and have them practice with an app before being tested on reciting the alphabet aloud.

Objectives:

Students will memorize all the letters of the alphabet. Students will be able to accurately pronounce each letter of the alphabet.

Materials Needed: iPad

Paper and pencils may assist in recital (optional).

Information:

Arabic is read from right to left. It is the opposite of English. Please, see the following website for a complete list: http://www.stanford.edu/dept/lc/arabic/alphabet/chart.html Some sounds, for example, letters 5,6, and 7 which are jim, ha, and kha, can be challenging to differentiate. Verification:

Students will vocally recite the alphabet. Students will give proof that they used the iPad app.

Activity: Students will watch a youtube video that introduces them to the alphabet. This video will provide an effective demonstration of proper pronunciation. Students will practice pronouncing the alphabet through the use of the iPad app.

Notes: An extra activity, if needed, could be to have the students learn to write the alphabet. This would assist in reinforcing their understanding. Lastly, the iPad app costs $0.99. This multiplied by X amount of students may be too much. If so, use the youtube video and then monitor the students as they practice with each other.
