Classification of Antiulcer Drugs

There are 5 main classifications of antiulcer drugs: 1) Reduction of gastric acid through H2 antihistamines, proton pump inhibitors, anticholinergics, and prostaglandin analogues. 2) Neutralization of gastric acid either systemically with sodium bicarbonate or non-systemically with magnesium or aluminum compounds. 3) Ulcer protective drugs like sucralfate and colloidal bismuth. 4) Ulcer healing drugs like carbenoxolone sodium. 5) Anti-H.pylori drugs including amoxicillin, clarithromycin, and metronidazole.
