INTRODUCTION

Learning about and how to write grants can be intimidating but actually it is an easy process once the member understands the goals and objectives that need to be accomplished. Writing grants is a disciplined process and when followed will result in funding sources for chapter programs. Members desiring to understand the grant process will accomplish the following goal and objectives: To plan, develop, and implement funding requests (grants) for Assistance League chapter programs over time Prepare processes, tools, and information, Identify funding opportunities matching chapter program needs, Learn writing requirements, Complete submission requirements, Evaluate decisions, and Work on team development.

PREREQUISITES The member who desires to write grants for the chapter should have the following skill set: Ability to access the Internet and search websites, Ability to use wordprocessing and spreadsheet programs, Ability to write concisely using correct grammar and spelling, Ability to organize materials, Ability to follow directions and meet deadlines, and Ability to work with philanthropic program chairmen.

CHECKLISTS A checklist provides a summary of the important points for each segment. DESIGN COMPONENTS: 1. Simplicity of presentation 2. Small chunks of information 3. Format design learning objectives, training information, examples, and checklist 4. Practical skills needed - computer skills, organizational skills, and writing skills

EXAMPLES Examples to facilitate the members ability to write a grant are included in the Appendix. RESOURCES AND VIDEOS There is an extensive body of resource dedicated to grant writing. Selected resources are provided to get the member started on writing grants. YouTube videos provide detail for topics needing direction.
