Step1 ========= Please disable the anti-virus temporary and monitor the issue. If it reoccurs, go to Step2. Step2 ========= Let's reinstall the video driver with the following steps. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Click Start. In the Start Search box type "devmgmt.msc" and press Enter. Expand "Display Adapters", double-click on the entry of the video card. Click the tab "Driver", click "Uninstall". Click Start. In the Start Search box type "appwiz.cpl" and press Enter. Remove the entries related to the display adapter. Download the driver from the following website.

I am under the impression that it is my video card because sometimes my display driver crashes but happens to recover without going to a blue screen. All my drivers and everything are updated. I have tried older drivers for the card as well and had the same result. I'm planning on
sending the GPU back and just getting a new one, but I wanted to double check this against someone else first. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The link worked. It is the atikmpag.sys that was the most recent cause. you also had dxgkrnl.sys on 10/1/2009 and dxgmms1.sys This ATI FAQ has no specific solution for the atimpag.sys. It does however state that low power causes overheating, physical overheating, failing overclock of GPU among many other factors can cause this- not necessarily graphics drivers. it's the atimDag.sys here, but it's the same issues. Many forum posts wanted to blame it on ati drivers or hardware back to 2008, but I find it interesting that a Vista and Server 2008 system stability hotfix appeared. There was a system stability update from Windows regarding dxgkrnl.sys for Vista. You don't see these system issues with nVidia display adapters. Looks like you'll be spending time checking this one out.

means you have the following BSOD: Bug Check 0x116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR The VIDEO_TDR_ ERROR bug check has a value of 0x00000116. This indicates that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed . For more about TDR, read this: http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device/display/wddm_timeout.mspx

Not so fast. Did you run a memtest? Run a disk diagnostic with the utility from the HDD manufacturer? Use the most recent BIOS at default settings? Update the chipset .inf for your motherboard? Verify that you have the latest audio drivers? Verify that the storage controller drivers are the latest? Are Windows 7 drivers available for your hardware or are you pushing some Vista drivers?
Hey, just for fun, run the hardware and software troubleshooters from the Action Center. Also, check out the answer in this forum post related to the dxgkrnl.sys crash that you had. using ATI 9.12 and the hotfix resolved the issue for one case. http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprohardware/thread/ceb5e68b-a7d9-4c8d8bd5-590610fbab01/ Those should remove or confirm any gut feelings that you have. Anyway, I didn't want you bail on a nice display adapter before trying some troubleshooting. Good luck!
