Analysis of Ocean

In the poem "Out of the Rolling Ocean the Crowd", Whitman expresses his love for a secret lover whose gender is unclear. He wants his lover to meet him by the ocean, as the sea will separate them. The poem has a lyrical tone and reads like a modern song. It reflects Whitman's appreciation for nature and the world, though it is uncertain if the poem depicts real feelings or was inspired by stress from his experiences.

Analysis of Out of the Rolling Ocean the Crowd

In this poem Whitman has a secret lover. It is unclear the gender of his lover. No matter the gender his love of nature is expressed. He wants his lover to meet him at the ocean. I think this is a relationship between him and someone overseas. In the poem he says But as for me, for you, the irresistible sea is to separate us . His tone is a lyrical tone. The poem almost sounds like a modern day song. No one knows whether this poem is based on his real feelings or not. Whitman never told anyone about his personal life. Out of everything Whitman saw from his life including slavery and war terrors is stress would cause him to write something like this. His appreciation for the world is reflected in his poetry.
