Owner remarks
As probabilistic approach of damage stability is considered in new SPS Code with transverse extent of damage up to the centre line of the vessel damage to all the piping system are to be considered to verify effects of progressive flooding. All affected piping is to be fitted with valves in the pipes in the intact tanks to prevent progressive flooding to these tanks. The valves are to be a positively closing type and operable from above freeboard deck or from a manned machinery space. (non-return valves may be accepted for dedicated supply lines) The above arrangement / valves are not required if it can be shown that even with the progressively flooded spaces taken into consideration, the vessel still complied with the damage stability criteria. The affected system include, but not limited to, air vent and sounding system, fuel oil service system, fuel oil cargo system, fresh water system, bilge system, ballast system, any cargo system etc. See Reg. II-1/ 7.7 of SOLAS as amended. Stern tubes shall be enclosed in a watertight space (or spaces) of moderate volume. The stern gland shall be situated in a watertight shaft tunnel or other watertight space separate from the stern tube compartment and of such volume that, if flooded by leakage through the stern gland, the margin line will not be submerged. See Reg. II-1/10.8 of SOLAS as amended. Watertight doors are to be meet requirements stipulated in Reg. II-1/13 for passenger ship. (IMO Resolution MSC.194(80)) See Reg. II-1/13 of SOLAS 1974 as amended. Complied in SPS 2004 and SPS 2008. But reg 10.8 to be found out.
