INTRODUCTION: Introductory part consists of definition of MIS and detail about TATA STEEL. First of all we will go through MIS which is basically concerned with processing
data into information. which is then communicated to the various Departments in an organization for appropriate decision-making.
Data Information Communication Decisions

Data collection involves the use of Information Technology (IT) comprising: computers and telecommunications networks (E-Mail, Voice Mail, Internet, telephone, etc.) Computers are important for more quantitative, than qualitative, data collection, storage and retrieval; Special features are speed and accuracy, and storage of large amount of data Telecommunications provide the means for oneway or two-way communication and for the transmission of messages.

Tata Steel established in 1907 is Asia's first and India's largest integrated private sector steel company. Tata Steel is the ranked sixth in the global steel sales. Tata Steel with Corus is the fifth largest global steel producer with a combined output of 23.5 MT. Tata Steel is among the lowest cost producers of steel in the world. Its sales mix today comprises approximately two thirds flat productshot rolled, cold rolled and coatedand one third long productsvalueadded finished products such as wires, wire rods and merchant bars. Over 9 MT production in FY 2006 IN 7 locations. Genesis of Idea: Before 21st century the three major problems faced by the industry are Land, Labor and Capital. After 21st century, the fourth factor is increasingly and fast becoming a hurdle or bottleneck for companies to grow. That is "Information", which is at the heart of much of todays global economy and managing knowledge has become vital for companies success. Information can be defined as a fluid mix of experience, values, contextual information and expert insight that provides a framework for evaluating and incorporating new experiences and information. Information is knowledge in action. Information is what people in an organization know about their staff, customers, products, processes, mistakes, and successes. The way the organization is structured and who reports to whom. B e i n g t h e b e s t i s j u s t n o t g o o d e n o u g h f o r s o m e companies. Take Tata Steel.
