Vacancy for Ph. D. Student Dear Prof. Van Roy, With this letter, I would like to apply for the Ph. D. student position in the Molecular Cell Biology Research Unit. Studying Structural Biology and Bioinformatics at Ghent University, I became more and more interested in comparative genomics and the evolution of genes. For this reason, I decided to choose a thesis treating the evolution of armadillo proteins. It was fascinating to see how genes were conserved between the human genome and the genomes of simple metazoan species. I am keen to learn how they have structurally and functionally evolved during the evolution. During my master projects in the Plant System Biology Department and Department for Molecular Biomedical Research of the VIB, I became more familiar with the wet lab working environment and benchmark techniques such as PCR, electrophoresis and recombinational cloning. To my cv, I add the references of the promoters of my master projects. They witnessed how I learned many things in a short amount of time. It wasnt easy to adjust to another level of education, here in Belgium, but thanks to my endurance and motivation, I did the best I could and succeeded. I believe I can also make this Ph. D. study a success, using these competences. The possibility of working in DMBR as a Ph. D. student is personally very exciting. I am looking forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time and consideration, Kind regards, Ismail Sahin Gl
