The document describes a safe starter system project for lathe machines that was developed by engineering students. The system uses proximity sensors to check for the absence of chuck keys or operator hands before starting the machine. It provides start and stop controls for safety. The block diagram shows the infrared sensor, controller, and starter components. When an object is detected near the sensors, the lathe will not start up. The system is cost-effective, prevents hazards, and has no direct competitors due to being a novel design.

Objective: Developing a highly cost-effective Safe Starter System to cater the safety of the people working on lathe machines. Before starting a machine, to check it for correct setup for the absence of chuck key in chuck and also the operator's hands, fingers, and vice versa. To be prepared and able to respond effectively to minimize loss. To provide start and stop controls for employing convenient safety. It will act as an emergency stop button in case something went wrong. Effective utilization of men, machine and available space.

The above fig. shows the block diagram of a circuit which can be used as a proximity sensor, Infrared (IR) rays are used to detect object in front of the device. For this the LEDs should be pointed in same direction as the IR module and at the same level. When there is nothing in front of them, the IR beam is not reflected on to the module and hence the circuit is not activated. When an object comes near the device, the light from the LED is reflected by the object on to the module and hence circuit gets activated. And lathe machine doesnt start.
