The Relationship Between Aluminium
The Relationship Between Aluminium
L. cv. Samsun; nonchlorophyllic cell line) in suspension culture. Cells at the logarithmic phase of growth were treated with 100 M A1C13 in modified Murashige-Skoog medium prepared without Pi and EDTA (pH 4.0) for up to 21 h. After treatment, the inhibition of cell growth by Al was estimated from the growth of the Al-treated cells relative to that of the control cells during posttreatment culture. Neither Al uptake nor the inhibition of the growth occurred with less than a 10-h exposure but then both parameters increased rapidly, reaching maximum values after an 18-h exposure. When cells were treated with AlCl3 at various concentrations for 18 h, the extent of growth inhibition was found to be a function of the Al content of the cells. Together, therefore, our results suggest that the amount of Al absorbed by the cells is a determining factor in the inhibition of growth by Al. The possibilities of use of a graphite oven type HGA 74 (Perkin Elmer) for the estimation of aluminium in biological fluids by atomic absorption spectrophotometry are described, with a special study of the stages of drying, mineralisation, atomisation, flow of inert gas, requirement for correction of nonspecific absorption, etc. Under fixed experimental conditions, the limit of sensitivity (absorption 1%) was 2.28.10.(-11) grams and the linearity was good up to 100 microgram/l. This method of analysis by direct treatment of the samples required only small volumes of the latter and reduces the risk of contamination. This paper presents a very simple fault diagnostic technique, that is able to evaluate the state condition of aluminum electrolytic capacitors used on the primary side of ATX power supplies. These capacitors have a high failure rate due to wear-out degradation failure, representing one of the weakest components of this equipment. Many times the ageing of these capacitors leads to the destruction of other components, like switch-mode transistors. The ageing of aluminum electrolytic capacitors is expressed by the increase of their internal resistance. The proposed fault diagnostic technique is based on the estimation of capacitors internal resistance in order to evaluate the capacitors state condition. To do so, a discrete Fourier algorithm is used. The temperature effect is also considered.
