    An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) provides emergency backup power to a load when the main power source fails. It protects equipment from power disturbances and prevents data loss, downtime, and damage. A UPS has a converter to change AC to DC, batteries, and an inverter to change DC back to AC. There are two main types - offline UPS which provide backup power only during an outage, and online UPS which provide continuous backup power. Transformerless UPS are becoming more common due to their smaller size, lighter weight, higher efficiency, lower costs, and better battery life compared to traditional transformer-based UPS.
