The use of antibiotics in dentistry
• Antibiotics: a substance produced by
microbes, or a semi-synthetic derivative of
a natural substance, that inhibits the
growth “bacteriostatic”, or lead to death of
that microbe “bacteriocidal”.
Classification of ABs
• Cell wall synthesis inhibitors.
• Protein synthesis inhibitors.
• Folic acid synthesis inhibitors.
• Nucleic acid synthesis inhibitors.
® DENACINE
• CAPSULES.
• DENACINE 150 = clindamycin HCl (150 mg
clindamycin).
• DENACINE 300 = clindamycin HCl (300 mg
clindamycin).
• Antibacterial agent.
• CONTRAINDICATIONS:
• Clindamycin \ lincomycin sensitivity.
• In the treatment of meningitis.
• SIDE EFFECTS:
• Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting,
allergy, jaundice, colitis, and stools with blood.
Use precautions

• CAPSULES + SUSPENSION.
• MEGACARE CAPSULES =250 mg flucloxacillin Na(

• MEGACARE suspension = 5 ml -125 mg
flucloxacillin Na ( 250 mg ampicillin base).
• Broad-spectrum antibiotic.
• CONTRAINDICATIONS:
• Sensitivity.
• SIDE EFFECTS:
• Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting.
Use precautions
• Consultation needed in:
• Pregnant, breast feeding, severe renal or hepatic
disorder, kidney\UT, blood, peptic ulcers, penicillin
sensitivity, and colitis.
• One capsule every 6 hours (1x4x4), before meals
or 2 hours after meal.
• Suspension- water and shaking.
® CEPROXX
• CAPLETS + TABLETS .
• CEPROXX 250 tab. = ciprofloxacin HCl 250 mg.
• CEPROXX 500 capl. = ciprofloxacin HCl 500 mg.
• CEPROXX 750 capl. = ciprofloxacin HCl 750 mg.
• Broad-spectrum antibiotic.
• CONTRAINDICATIONS:
• ciprofloxacin sensitivity.
• Under 18 years, pregnant and lactating mother.
• SIDE EFFECTS:
• Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting,
tremor, blurred vision, and dizziness.
Use precautions
• Consultation needed in:
• Past epilepsy, liver impairment, kidney\nervous
system, and don’t take the drug with caffeine
containing drinks.
• CEPROXX 250 = 20 tablets.
• CEPROXX 500 = 10 caplets.
• CEPROXX 750 = 10 caplets. "plastic jar”
® ERYTHROTAB
• Each tablet contains erythromycin stearate
equivalent to 250 mg erythromycin base.
• Used as alternative to penicillin and in
penicillin sensitive patients.
• CONTRAINDICATIONS:
• Sensitivity.
• SIDE EFFECTS:
• Abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea,
vomiting.
Use precautions
• Consultation needed in:
• Pregnant, breast feeding, hepatic disorder.
• 1 hour before, or 2 hours after the meal.
• ERYTHROTAB® = box of 24 tablets.
® MAGNACILLIN
• MAGNACILLIN capsules = 250mg ampicillin, and
flucloxacillin 250mg.
• MAGNACILLIN forte capsules = 250mg ampicillin,
and flucloxacillin 500mg.
• MAGNACILLIN drops= 1ml, 60mg ampicillin, and
flucloxacillin 30mg.
• MAGNACILLIN suspension = 5ml, 125mg
ampicillin, and flucloxacillin 125mg.
• Broad-spectrum antibiotic.
• SIDE EFFECTS:
• Epigastric distress and skin rash.
Use precautions
• Consultation needed in:
• Pregnant and breast feeding.
• 1 hour before, or 2 hours after the
meal.
• MAGNACILLIN capsules = box of
16 capsules.
• MAGNACILLIN forte capsules = jar
of 16 capsules.
• MAGNACILLIN drops= glass
bottle of 15 ml.
• MAGNACILLIN suspension =
plastic bottle of 60 mg powder
or 100 ml.
® AMOXITID
• AMOXITID 250 capsules = amoxycillin 250 mg.
• AMOXITID 500 capsules = amoxycillin 500 mg.
• AMOXITID 750 capsules = amoxycillin 750 mg.
• AMOXITID drops = 1ml, amoxycillin 50 mg.
• AMOXITID 125\250\400 suspension = 5ml,
amoxycillin 125\250\400 mg.
• Wide spectrum.
• Contraindications: sensitivity to ß-lactams such
as cephalosporin.
• SIDE EFFECTS:
• Diarrhea, nausea, allergy, and change in the
tongue color.
Use precautions
• Consultation needed in:
• Pregnant and breast feeding.
• AMOXITID 250\500 capsules = 16, 200,240 caps.
• AMOXITID 750 capsules = 12 caps.
• AMOXITID drops = powder\ 15 ml.
• AMOXITID 125\250\400 suspension= 60-100 ml.
® Ogmin
• Ogmin 250 tablets = amoxycillin 250 mg, and clavulanic
acid 125 mg.
• Ogmin 500 tablets = amoxycillin 500 mg, and clavulanic
acid 125 mg.
• Ogmin 875 caplets = amoxycillin 875 mg, and clavulanic
acid 125 mg.
• Ogmin 125 suspension = amoxycillin 125 mg, and
clavulanic acid 31.25 mg.
• Ogmin 250 suspension = amoxycillin 250 mg, and
clavulanic acid 62.5 mg.
• Ogmin 400 suspension = amoxycillin 400 mg, and
clavulanic acid 57.1 mg.
• Contraindication as in amoxitid.
• SIDE EFFECTS:
• Diarrhea, nausea, allergy, and change in the tongue color.

• Consultation needed in:
• Pregnant and breast
feeding.
• Ogmin 250 tablets = plastic
jar of 20 tablets.
• Ogmin 500 tablets = plastic
jar of 10-20 tablets.
• Ogmin 875 caplets = plastic
jar of 14 caplets.
• Ogmin 125 suspension =
powder of 60-100ml.
• Ogmin 250 suspension =
powder of 60-100ml.
• Ogmin 400 suspension =
powder of 60 ml.
CEFADROX
®
• CEFADROX 1000 caplets = cefadroxil monohydrate,
1000 mg cefadroxil base.
• CEFADROX 500 tablets = cefadroxil monohydrate, 500
mg cefadroxil base.
• CEFADROX 125 suspension = 5ml, cefadroxil
monohydrate, 125 mg cefadroxil base.
• CEFADROX 250 suspension = 5ml, cefadroxil
monohydrate, 250 mg cefadroxil base.
• Used for skin infections, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, & UTI.
• SIDE EFFECTS:
• Diarrhea, nausea, allergy “urticaria”.
Use precautions
• Consultation needed in:
• Pregnant and breast feeding.
• Dosage:- 25-50 mg\kg\day 1x1 or 1x2.
• -1-2 g\kg\day in adults 1x1 or 1x2.
• CEFADROX 1000 caplets = 10 caplets.
• CEFADROX 500 tablets = 12 tablets.
• CEFADROX 125 suspension = powder to 60 ml.
• CEFADROX 250 suspension = powder to 60 ml.
® BEPEN V.K
• Each 5ml, contains 250 phenoxymethyl penicillin
• Each tablet contains 250-500 mg of phenoxymethyl
penicillin.
• Side effects:
• Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
• Tablets : 20 tablets.
• Bottles : powder for 100ml syrup.
® ZITROCIN
• Capsules: 250 mg azithromycin.
• Suspension: 200 mg azithromycin.
• Macrolide antibiotic.
• Consultation needed in:
• Pregnant and breast feeding.
• Zitrocin 250: 6 capsules.
• Zitrocin 200: 15\22.5 ml.

• Jeflex 250 capsules: 250 mg cephalexin.
