HPDM DHCP Settings

This document discusses DHCP tags that can help HP Device Manager thin clients register and are required for PXE imaging. Tag 201 provides the PXE server IP and port for imaging. Tag 202 specifies an alternative gateway IP if the client cannot locate one. Tag 203 allows specifying location information like region and city. DHCP Settings for HPDM Clients

Introduction:
DHCP tags can be used to aid HPDM agent registration and are required for PXE imaging.

DHCP options used by HP Device Manager Thin Clients

Tag 201
Format:

[Gateway IP Address]<space>[Gateway Port] 192.168.1.2 40003

Example:

Function: The PXE imaging process uses this tag to identify the PXE server during the reimaging process. This parameter does not seem to be used during normal day to day type operations.

Tag 202
Format:

[Server IP Address]<space>[Gateway IP Address] 192.168.1.2 192.168.1.1

Example:

Function: If the HPDM Agent does not already have a contactable primary or backup gateway it will attempt to connect the Gateway specified here. If that attempt is successful the agent will set its primary Gateway to this one. If the HPDM agent cannot locate a gateway by existing configuration or DHCP, then it will query DNS for the name

hpdm-gateway. As this will provide the same HPDM gateway to the whole

organisation this method is not recommended.

Tag 203
Format: P1-P6. You can specify any of the six in any order

Example:

P1=Asia;P2=China;P3=Shanghai;P3=Company/Department/Group

Tag 137
Format:

ftp://[username]@[serverip or name]/auto-update ftp://[email protected]/auto-update

Example:

Function: Tag 137 is used by Smart or Z clients only. It allows the client to locate the Smart Client FTP configuration download site without using the HP Smart client Broadcast Service.
