Petition for the Resumption of Standard Teaching of German Complete with

Grammar, Vocabulary, Writing, Reading, Speaking, and Listening

The undersigned hereby affirm that

1. they care deeply about the progression of their knowledge of German,

2. they believe their knowledge of the German language (I.e. Their grasp of syntax,
forming complex sentences, basic grammar) has grown at a significantly lower
rate than previous years, and has the potential to be growing at a faster rate,
3. although complex projects are good ways to exhibit students’ German-speaking
capabilities, they do not necessarily enhance the students’ knowledge of the
German language better than other, less tedious and time consuming assignments,
4. lectures are a necessary evil when it comes to learning grammar,
5. students are not motivated enough, nor qualified enough, to expand their German
vocabulary during their spare time without assigned homework
6. although tedious, continuous editing of writing is beneficial to the writers,
7. cultural knowledge of Germany is most certainly necessary for a well-rounded
German education, but it is only practical as a complementary component of
learning grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading, speaking, and listening,
8. they understand and respect your right to teach and assign homework but,
9. would like to understand the educational purpose of some of the larger
assignments
10. they have loved and always will love Frau Lechner.
