This lesson plan is for a self-discovery unit in Group Guidance/Counselling for grade 7 students from September 12th to 30th. Over the three weeks, students will define and understand self-discovery, identify different aspects of themselves, and undergo self-evaluation and reflection to increase self-awareness. Teachers will discuss different areas of self-knowledge and have students complete worksheets and share in pairs. Students will also answer reflection questions in their notebooks on areas they want to change or are happy about.

Teaching of the lesson Period wise During the sessions, students are able to Define self discovery Identify areas/aspect of the self Undergo the process of self-discovery through selfevaluation and reflection Attain a significant degree of self-awareness Worksheet Whiteboard / marker Self-introduction (for some classes) Personal narratives about the vacation Class rules/expectations Orientation about the purpose and requirements of the subjects Counsellor discusses self-discovery and the different areas of the self (i.e. personal, physical, emotional, preference, ambition, talents, attitude, etc) Students undergo the process of self-evaluation by answering the worksheet Students go in pair and shares 3 questions of their choice to their partner Reflection Activity Students answer the following reflection questions in their notebooks: In no less than 50 words, answer the following questions in your notebook1. What area/aspect of yourself do you want to change? Why? 2. What area/aspect of yourself are you extremely happy about? Why? -To be conducted on the 2nd week of OctoberGrade 7: N/A Grade 8: What is communication and how important it is to you? Grade 9: List 10 things that you wish to achieve in life? List, draw or make a song out of these. Grade 10: Research on the parts of the brains and their functions. Focus on parts with specialized functions (i.e. music/art appreciation, memory) Grade 11: If there is a song that could summarize your life, what would it be?
