Benoit Mandelbrot was a Polish-French-American mathematician. He is known for his work on fractal geometry, which studies rough and fragmented shapes that occur in nature. Mandelbrot discovered that fractals have a detailed structure that repeats itself at different scales, which is now called the Mandelbrot set.
