Droitwich entered this derby game against Worcester, with both sides level on the
same number of points in joint 2nd, goals scored, conceded and goal difference.
Droitwich Spa 4
th
X came away with a hard earned point in an entertaining game
after an improved second half performance against Worcester 7ths in central
league division two south west.
Worcester dominated the early exchanges with their midfield creating pressure
and prompting their play. Worcester early dominance was rewarded with centre
forward scoring from close range. Droitwich began to assert their dominance in
the middle of the park as the young midfield began to find their range of passing
to push Worcester defence back. Spa began to create chances but Worcester
defence held firm until a cross from left which the keeper saved and lay on the
ball resulting in a penalty flick which James Hancher dispatched into the top
corner sending the keeper the wrong way. For the rest of the half Droitwich had
plenty of possession but created no other clear goal scoring opportunities.
Worcester started the 2
nd
half brightly creating chances from penalty corners
which Droitwich defended well against. Although the pressure told, when from a
short corner, Worcester forward placed a flick into the left hand corner, making
the score 2-1.
Droitwich found their passing style as space was found in the middle of the park,
with the full backs prompting attacks, and midfield using the ball quickly setting
up counter attacking opportunities. Worcester defence came under severe
pressure as a reverse pass found Mike Carsberg at the back stick who hit the
post and the follow up went narrowly wide. Mike made up for this after good build
work down the left which found Mike in space to put the ball over the line for a
scruffy second and then a third taking his goal tally to 5, and making the score 3-
2 to Droitwich with 8 minutes to go.
Worcester became more determined and their experience began to tell, as Spa
became tired in the last 5 minutes, and forced a series of penalty corners which
they scored from with the last play of the game leaving the final score as 3-3.
Droitwich look to extend their run of 1 defeat in 5 with a difficult trip to Olton and
West Warwick, Saturday 29
th
October, with a 430push back.
