Configuring your computer to use Microsoft Update


Workstation must be configured to use Microsoft Update. It is recommended to setup the configuration before MS Forefront installation, so the Client Security agent can immediately connect to Microsoft Update and get definition updates. To configure a computer running Windows to use Microsoft Update, the steps are different for Windows Vista and Windows XP. Windows Vista 1. Click Start > All Programs > Windows Update. 2. In the Windows Update window, next to You receive updates, verify that For Windows and other products from Microsoft Update Service is selected. This statement indicates that your computer is able to use Microsoft Update. If it indicates For Windows only, click Get updates for more products. 3. In Internet Explorer, tick I accept the Terms of Use check box, and then install. 4. If the User Account Control dialog box appears, click Continue. Windows XP Note: If your computer is already configured to use Microsoft Update, the Welcome to Microsoft Update page is displayed. No more steps from the user are required. 1. Click Start > All Programs > Windows Update. 2. In Internet Explorer, next to Get Microsoft Update today, click Go. 3. Under Try Microsoft Update today, click Start Now, and then continue (license agreement). 4. If prompted right-click the Internet Explorer Information Bar and choose Install ActiveX control, and in the Internet Explorer - Security Warning dialog box, click Install. 5. If notified that Automatic Updates is turned off, configure it as you want. 6. Automatic Updates need not be enabled to receive Client Security definition updates.

Forefront Client Security

Installing the Forefront client security agent without MOM 1. Go to the folder that contains the client setup in your DVD. You should browse to this from the command prompt. Ex. D:\Microsoft Forefront\Client Security\Client\ 2. Then run the client setup with the switch NOMOM Ex. D:\Microsoft Forefront\Client Security\Client\CLIENTSETUP.EXE /NOMOM

3. Then it will install the Forefront client on your PC and give u the completion message.
