1. Audio CD is usually recorded at 44.1kHz, 16-bit stereo. 44.1kHz is the


sampling frequency , 16-bit is the sample size .
The term “stereo” indicates that the audio data is recorded in 2
channel(s).

2. According to the information in Question 1, for a 4 minutes audio data:


No. of channel(s) = 2
Total number of samples taken (by all channels) in 1 second
= 88200
Memory per sample = 16 bits
Bitrate = 88200*16 = 1411200 bps
Total data size = 1411200 * 4 * 60 = 338688000 bits
= 42336000 Byte
= 40.37 MB

3. Give 2 file types using wave format.


wav, mp3, wmv, rm, ra, aac, etc.

4. MP3 uses lossy / lossless compression. It applies the psychoacoustic model to


remove low / high frequency audio which human is insensitive.

5. Streaming refers to the technique which the user can enjoy the
multimedia content upon continuously receiving parts of the multimedia data.
An example of audio file which supports such technique is RA / MP3 / ….

6. MIDI files record the composing musical instructions instead of


the samples from the analogue sound wave. Thus it cannot be used to present
human voice .

7. When recording our voice, a microphone is needed to collect our voice


and send it to the sound card on the motherboard for
digitization.
