Problem-Based Learning, Languages and Culture for Educational Exchange Experiences of GPGC (Korea) and LCCM (Philippines)

Abstract

Even before the emergence of trade liberalization, our current global village has become the favorite tune of the 21st century, the need for technological, educational and cultural exchange between nations, specifically, between neighboring countries in Asia, has always been there incessantly lurking within the system of any developing civilization worthy of independent thinking, yet imbued with an interdependent attitude towards mutual humanitarian service and survival.

This paper will share the experiences of the two institutions - a public provincial college in South Korea - Gyeongnam Provincial Geochang College (GPGC) and a private catholic educational institution in the Philippines - La Consolacion College Manila (LCCM). Specifically, the

paper will focus first on each institutions program on student immersion for the local partnered industry through on-the-job-training (OJT). A problembased learning approach was used to train the students while undergoing OJT and the results will be presented in this paper. Secondly, is a presentation of work-in-progress project on educational exchange of selected Filipino students learning the Korean language and currently enrolled in its e-business educational program of GPGC while the selected

Korean students were enrolled in its Information Technology and English program of LCCM - an initial step for developing technological innovation.
