NCBI consists of various resources such as Databases, Downloads, Submissions and other helpful tools. It also answers some frequently asked questions or steps under the tab HOW TO under resources. The various databases present are classified on the basis of the information present in them. The databases are classified on the basis of information present in d database. For eg. BIO PROJECT database is a collection of genomics, functional genomics and other relational databases.while GENBANK is acollection of all publicly available DNA sequences. There are other downloads such as BLAST(stand-alone),FTP-BLAST Databases, FTP-CCD to which we can gain access through NCBI.There are also other tools present such as amino acid explorer, BLINK etc. There are various tools in NCBI.BLAST is one such tool which is extensively used for parallel comparision of two different sets of data. Thus there is vast amount of data present in NCBI and the site is very well organised for retrieving data from the various databases. For this purpose a unique accession no. For each sequence.Further there is also an accession number given for the sequences which are updated.so it makes fairly eaiser to retrieve the exact data we are looking for.In addition to this various biological and medical books as well as journals can be gained access through BOOK SHELF and NLM catalogue database. The site also presents a NCBI C++ tool kit manual with c++ library refrence, software examples and demonstrations.NCBI handbook is vast collection of articles about databases and softwares. Thus we can truly say that NCBI is one of the major resource in the field of bioinformatics.
