DURATION: Two Semesters OBJECTIVES STARTING DAY: 10 July 2011 The Programme is Jointly Organized by PSG College of Technology (PSG CT), Coimbatore and Fluid Control Research Institute (FCRI), Palakkad Oil and Gas Flow Measurement and Instrumentation Control Professionals with good
exposure to theory and practical knowledge are in great demand in India and Gulf Countries. The programme includes theory and hands-on-training in the fields of flow measurement and instrumentation engineering. First semester will be
conducted at PSG CT and the second semester will be spent in Fluid Control Research Institute. TOPICS I Semester: (at PSG CT) Basic concept of fluid mechanics, Ir-rotational and rotational, stream function, potential function, continuity equation, derivation of three dimensional equation, applications to one dimensional flows, differential momentum equation, Impact of jets-force on fixed and moving vanes, Fluid dynamics, Solving fluid flow equations using software tools, Flow through pipes and flow over bodies, Boundary layer theory, Fluid flow simulation studies using COMSOL Multiphysics software. Advanced Analog and Digital ICs and their applications, Sensors, Transducers and Signal conditioning, Measurements
and instrumentation, Introduction to LabVIEW Software and Virtual Instrumentation systems, Embedded system design for fluid control and measurement, Introduction to PSpice, Opening PSpice, Drawing a circuit, placing the parts, connecting the circuit, AC sweep, DC sweep, Digital Simulation, Real Time system design using Advanced Microcontrollers for fluid flow, Introduction to PSoC and its applications in fluid flow measurement, Real Time Operating Systems. II Semester: (at FCRI) Principles and Practice of Flow Measurement, Selection and Sizing of Flow Meters and Installation Effects, Test & Measurement Instruments and Electronic Trouble Shooting, Data Acquisition Systems and Process Automation, Petroleum
& Natural Gas Flow measurement Standards and practices, Study of international StandardsAGA,API, OIML etc. for Oil and Gas Flow measurement computations and custody transfer, Instrumentation for Flow Measurement and Auxiliary Measurement Systems, Custody Transfer Flow Measurement of Petroleum and Natural Gas Custody Transfer Instrumentation, Auditing and Validation of Flow metering Stations and Custody Transfer Installations, Model Approval of Flow meters as per OIML International Standards, Flow Control Techniques, Control Valves and Actuators, Quality and Traceability, Other General Instrumentation and Special Topics, Introduction to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Applications of CFD,
Case studies including Industrial Problems. In the above area hands-ontraining at Fluid Control Research Institute is an integral part of the programme.
