Anti-Arthritic Herbals As Transdermal: A Review

Arthritis is a common problem, especially in older people. Its chronic nature makes treatment complex as it often involves high doses of NSAIDs which can cause side effects like gastrointestinal issues and liver damage. To avoid these issues, there are several transdermal drug delivery systems available that contain NSAIDs and herbal ingredients. Transdermal delivery provides benefits like reduced dosing, prevention of gastrointestinal side effects, decreased dosing frequency, and easier withdrawal if a drug causes hypersensitivity. While many plants have anti-arthritic properties, some cannot be taken orally due to irritation. However, only a few herbal transdermal systems are commercially available worldwide. This review discusses the benefits and potential for plant-based transdermal drug
