Remote Desktop Dual Monitor Support for UAG

In Forefront Unified Access Gateway (UAG), when we publish Remote Desktop applications, Forefront UAG reads a Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) template file, when the application is added to the portal using the Add Application Wizard. We can customize the RDP template file by adding parameters for our Remote Desktop applications. The customizations take effect on The Remote Desktop (Predefined) and Remote Desktop (User defined) application templates which are available on UAG under Terminal Service (TS)/Remote Desktop Services (RDS) group.

The RDP parameters are stored in the file <Application Directory of UAG>\Microsoft Forefront Unified Access Gateway\common\conf\rd-template.txt. By default, the file contains only one parameter: remoteapplicationmode:i:0

Image 2 For Remote Desktop Dual Monitor Support in UAG, we have to perform following steps:

1- Copy the file <Application Directory of UAG>\Microsoft Forefront Unified

Access Gateway\common\conf\rd-template.txt to <Application Directory of UAG>\Microsoft Forefront Unified Access Gateway\common\conf\Custom Update\rd-template.txt.

2- Open rd-template.txt file under <Application Directory of UAG>\Microsoft

Forefront Unified Access Gateway\common\conf\Custom Update for edit.

3- Add span monitors:i:1 into the rd-template file and save.

Image 3 4- Add the RDP application into the portal and activate the Configuration. But, there are few limitations or requirements for SPAN mode to work correctly, which are mentioned below: 1- Equal resolution monitors When accessing RDP application for Dual Monitor Span mode, both the monitors should have the same resolution.

2-

Total resolution for both the monitors should not exceed 4096 x 2048 pixels.

3- Left monitor should be the primary monitor as shown in the image below:

Image 4 So, monitor #1 should be the primary display (Image 4) 4- If we have any other RDP application previously configured on UAG, they will not get affected with the new parameter in the rd-template.txt file. This will only effect those applications which will be added after making the changes in the rd-template file in the Custom Update folder under <Application Directory of UAG>\Microsoft Forefront Unified Access Gateway\common\conf\
