Two Dimensional Cascade

This document discusses the operation of turbomachines like impellers and how the flow of working fluid changes as it passes through individual blade rows. It notes that a cascade consists of identically spaced parallel blades that impart a change in angular momentum to the fluid passing through. Wrapping a linear cascade of blades forms a radial cascade that can represent the curved flow path in an impeller.

INTRODUCTION: The operation of any turbomachine is directly dependent upon changes in the working fluids angular momentum as it crosses

individual blade rows. A deeper insight of turbomachinery mechanics may be gained from consideration of the flow changes and forces exerted within these individual blade rows. The cascade consists of a number of identical blades equally spaced, the flow submit a change in angular momentum due to its passage through it. The linear cascade of blades comprises a number of identical blades, equally spaced and parallel to one another. The plane flow in an impeller may be presented by a cascade, if a straight cascade is wrapped it will form a radial cascade.
