Report from Drew Jones, SOBO Coordinator
Discussion
Andrew Jones gave a report on the following items related to the SOBO activities: -He is working with Rafael Campos on the tagging of illegal newsracks and the most blatant violators are being removed; -Parking meter poles are being removed and should be gone from both districts by the end of the year; -Drew is looking into the adopt a median program to see if the CBDs can work with the City to turn the water back on the medians, particularly at W. Grand and Broadway. Marco wants to come up with a comprehensive plan for median improvement over the next 2 years -Marco is going to work with Aliza to try to get the CBDs to provide more than general services at places such as Frank Ogawa Plaza and Snow park to ensure that CBD members are able to enjoy them during the working hours The Committee reviewed the SOBO budget for the current year. Numbers for the upcoming year will be forthcoming at the next meeting -Ted Tarver gave an update on the Ambassador program. He is working closely with OPD to secure the Nextel phones to allow for direct communication between the ambassadors and OPD. -Drew is attempting to get the contract from AC Transit that outlines the frequency of bus stop cleaning throughout both districts. The bus stops are really a litter and odor problem in the districts. -Rick and Harold gave an update on their processes for cleaning throughout the districts. Peralta is now adhering to the tree watering agreement that was committed to by the City. -Staff is working on the BART back step issues trying to provide some landscaping to mitigate ongoing loitering problems. -Marco is attempting to deal with Aliza on the acquisition of new trash cans for the districts. The SOBO Committee must deal with outstanding issues, as assigned by the Board which include: Review of the services provided by Block by Block and Peralta and make recommendations for next years services, including landscaping throughout both of the districts

-Stacey will get Marco in touch with a gentlemen who may be able to provide the landscaping of the medians and come up with a long term plan for their beautification which would include a hanging plant program for Broadway; -Staff will be meeting with the new Burger King owner soon to go over his steps to improve the corner; -Drew is going to check on how to get access to Community Service volunteers that must provide work to non-profits in lieu of jail time or fines due to petty crimes;
