This study investigated the effect of repeated firings on the shear bond strength between zirconia and ceramic. Twelve zirconia discs layered with ceramic were divided into four groups, with each group subjected to a different number of firings between two to five times. The shear bond strength of each group was then measured using a universal testing machine. The preliminary results suggest that repeated firings do not affect the shear bond strength of the zirconia-ceramic interface. However, further investigation is still needed.

Topic Effect of repeated firing on the shear bond strength between zirconia and ceramic A pilot study Statement of Problem-The zirconia ceramic bond offers superior shear bond strength properties but those properties retained even after repeated firing is a questionable. This study determines the shear bond strength between zirconia and ceramic on repeated firings. Materials and Methods Identical 12 discs of zirconia are layered with veneering ceramics and are divided into 4 groups each comprising of 3 discs. Each group isrespectively divided for firings from 2 to 5. Repeated firings are done and the shear bond strength is measured on universal testing machine. The results are analysed and subjected to statistical analysis. Result- The hypothetical result is there is no effect of repeated firing on the shear bond strength of zirconia ceramic bond. Conclusion- Zirconia ceramic restorations not only provide superior shear bond strength properties but they also retain them on repeated firings. As this is just a preliminary study, further investigation has to be done to determine other properties. Email [email protected] IPS No S 2717 Ph- 09700012356
