Montgomery County Households by Type 1990 and 2000

Montgomery County saw an increase in total households from 1990 to 2000, growing from 282,228 to 324,565 households, a 15% increase. The majority of households remained family households, making up 70.2% of total households in 1990 and 69.1% in 2000. Married couple families made up over half of all households in both 1990 (57.7%) and 2000 (55.2%), though their percentage decreased slightly. Nonfamily households, consisting mainly of people living alone, increased from 29.8% to 30.9% of total households in the county between 1990 and 2000.
