What is NCC ?
The National Cadet Corps (Hindi:
) is the Indian military cadet corps with its Headquarters at New Delhi. It is open to school and college students on voluntary basis. The Cadets are given basic military training in small arms and parades. The officers and cadets have no liability for active military service once they complete their course but are given preference over normal candidates during selections based on the achievements in the corps.
History of NCC
The NCC in India was formed with the National
Cadet Corps Act of 1948. It was raised on 15 July 1948 (NCC DAY) The National Cadet Corps can be considered as a successor of the University Officers Training Corps (UOTC) which was established by the British Government in 1942 The National Cadet Corps Act was accepted by the Governor General and on 15 July 1948 the National Cadet Corps came into existence.

Aim of NCC
To provide a suitable environment to motivate
the youth to take up a career in the armed forces. To develop qualities of character, courage, comradeship, discipline, leadership, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and the ideals of selfless service amongst the youth of the country. To create a human resource of organized, trained and motivated youth, to provide leadership in all walks of life and be always available for the service of the nation.

How?
NCC has become instrumental in molding the character and imparting in our students a dynamic outlook during their school and college education. NCC programme provides ample opportunities to the cadets by way of conducting firing camps, drill practices, personality development and voluntary service programmes.

Objective
These activities directly contributes in nation
building and also the qualities, thoughts, experiences and other manners which are learned by the NCC cadets contributes indirectly by making them good citizens of India
GOOD CITIZEN
For example, during recent tsunami disaster, the NCC was in the forefront of relief and rehabilitation operations.

Praising the NCC for its role in nation-building, the Prime Minister said: "The country is justly proud of the NCC. Since its inception, the NCC has contributed a great deal to the development of the personalities of thousands of our youth. You represent the great diversity of our nation. You also symbolise our unity. It is delightful to see the unbreakable bond of friendship among cadets coming from different parts of our country, speaking a variety of languages and professing many creeds. In the NCC, we truly find an inspiring example of unity in diversity."

Addressing the cadets after inaugurating the NCC Republic Day Camp 2011 here, vice President Ansari said: The cadets hailing from different parts of the country, with different linguistic and religious background, represent a Mini India . The rigorous discipline the NCC cadets are put through is very useful training of both the body and the mind.
