The document discusses Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) protocols and configurations. It provides an overview of DSL, noting that it provides digital data transmission over local telephone networks simultaneously with regular telephone service. It mentions that early DSL implementations used DHCP to provide network details like IP addresses, while later versions often used PPP or ATM. It also provides a brief overview of the DHCP protocol, stating that it is used to dynamically assign IP addresses to hosts for a specified lease time set by the network administrator.

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol): Protocol): Assigns IP Addresses and other parameters to hosts.

Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)

DHCP is a four step process.

4. If the offer is still valid, the server returns a DHCP Acknowledgement and records that information as used. If it is no longer valid, a DHCP Negative Acknowledgement is sent and the process begins again.

INTRODUCTION:

Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) is a family of technologies DSL) that provides digital data transmission over the wires of a local telephone network. DSL originally stood for digital subscriber loop. loop. DSL service is delivered simultaneously with regular telephone on the same telephone line.

Protocols and configurations

The earliest implementations used DHCP to provide network details such as the IP address to the subscriber equipment Needs authentication via MAC address or an assigned host name. Later implementations often use Point-to-Point Protocol Point-to(PPP) or Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM)

DYNAMIC HOST CONFIGURATION PROTOCOL (DHCP):

This protocol is used to dynamicaly assign ip addresses to hosts It assign an ip address to host for a specific lease time Lease time is set by network administration
