Common Name: Cymbidium Genus Name: Cymbidium (abbreviated Cym.) The name Cymbidium is derived from the Greek word Kumbos, meaning hole cavity , it refers to the form or base of the lip. It is genus of fifty-two evergreen species of orchid family. It is cultivated for thousands of years specially in China and distributed in tropical and subtropical Asia and North Australia. Cymbidium became popular in Europe during the Victorian era. It is very popular because the plant can survive cold temperatures as low as 7 degrees centigrade. In his writings, Confucius referred to the Asian Cymbidium as the king of fragrance . Cymbidiums have two main groups, Standard Cymbidiums and Miniature Cymbidiums. Longevity: 1-3 weeks Colors: Green, yellow, pink, red, and white. Availability: year-round Cut flower Large flower, one stem in OC market is for $22.50 and Miniature Cymbidiums, bunch of ten stems is for $14.50. Flower Form: Form or mass flower. Complete stem can be used for line work. Individually florets are used in bridal bouquets, corsages, and other body flower creations. .
