Nowadays we are entering and living in a digital era where most of our activities are

being helped by digital equipment. New invention in math, physics, and chemistry lead the worldofengineeringdevelopsrapidly.Alongtimeagohydrogeologistandpetrophysicscientist calculated and analyzed geoelectrical sounding data manually but now, the developing technologybornnewmethodtoanalyzegeoelectricalsoundingdata. Geoelectrical sounding data can be calculated and analyzed digitally by using IP2 Win

Software. IP2 Win software can analyze induced polarization data with some electrode configurationlikeWennerSchlumberger,WennerAlpha,WennerBeta,etc.Usingcomputerto helpcalculateandanalyzedatawillsavealotoftime.Thereisafactthatmostofuswillagree, computerhasaverysmallpossibilitytomakeamistakeincalculation. UnfortunatelyusingIP2Winisnoteasy.WeneedtobefamiliarwithIP2Winsoftware

1. IntroductiontoIP2WinSoftware IP 2 Win is software for analyzing geoelectrical data from one or more VES

(Vertical Electrical Sounding) points. IP2 Win can analyze data from some kinds of induced polarizations electrode configuration such as Schlumberger, Wenner, Wenner,etc.

UsingIP2Winincludessomesteps.ThefirststepinusingIPWinisdatainput,

thesecondstepisdataerrorcorrection,thenextstepisaddingdatapoint,andthelast stepiscrosssectioncreation.Datainputcanbedonedirectlyfromfielddata(sounding dataconsistofAB/2,V,I,andK)orindirectfielddata(soundingdataconsistofAB/2and Rho_a). OutputofsoundingdatathatanalyzedbyusingIP2Winsoftwareareresistivity

layer,logresistivitygraph,resistivitydepthtable,andpseudocrosssection.Theoutput canbeexportedinsomedataformats.BasicweaknessofIP2Winsoftwareisabugthat frequently occurs when analyzing data. RunIP2Winprogram,sotherewillbeawindowlikepictureabove.

NextclickFile>NewVESpointlikethepictureabove.

NewVESPointwindowwillcomeoutlikethepictureabove. Note: AB/2columnisusedforAB/2(distancebetweentwoelectrodethatinjectelectriccurrenttotheground) datainput,MNcolumnisusedforMNdatainput(distancebetweentwoelectrodethatcatchinjected electriccurrent),SPisusedforselfpotentialdatainput,Vforinputtingvoltagedata,Iforinputting electriccurrentdata,andKinputtinggeometricfactordata.Rho_acolumnisapparentresistivitydata column(Rho_aistheresultfromelectricalresistivityandgeometricfactorcalculationvalue).

Choosingelectrodeconfigurationisimportantbeforeinputtingdata,asexampleSchlumbergers electrodeconfigurationwaschosen.

Dataareinputtedincolumnbyclickingthecolumn.Afterdatawereinputted,pointswillbeplottedina graphbesidetheVEScolumn,thenclickOKbutton. Note: Datacanbesavedin*.txtformatbyclickingSaveTXTbutton.

SaveaswindowwillcomeoutthendecidewheretheinputteddatawillbesavedasVESdatafile.Giveit aname,asexampleTest,andthenclickSaveButton.

CurvesandtablewillbedisplayedfromsavedVESfile. Note: Tablegivesinformationaboutresistivitylayer.Resistivityvalueineachgroundlayerisdisplayedin column.AltcolumnisaltitudecolumnordepthfromVESpointelevation(thepictureaboveshowedVES valueelevationin0msoAltvalueis1.5m,ifVESelevationvaluein5mthenAltvaluewillbe3.5m). Informationofdepthfromsurfaceisdisplayedindcolumn.Informationofeachlayerthicknesswith differentresistivityvalueisdisplayedindcolumn.RedandBluecurvegiveinformationabouttherelation betweenAB/2andapparentresistivityvalue.Bluecurvegiveinformationaboutresistivityvalue variation.

Dataerrorisdisplayedontabletitlebar(errorlevelintheexampleaboveisabout23.5%).Dataerror canbecorrectedautomaticallybyclickingPoint>Inversion.Manualdatacorrectioncanbedoneby draggingthecurve.

Theresultfromdatacorrectionappearedinthegraphanderrorvalueontabletitlebarlikepicture above(therewasavaluedecreasingfrom23.5%to6.82%).

CloseIP2WinsoftwarebyclickingFile>Exit.RunIP2WinsoftwareagaintoinputanotherVESpointdata. Note: EverychangemadeinIP2Winwillbeautomaticallysaved.Thatautomaticallysavesettingis defaultbut,iftheautomaticallysavesettingisoffclickFile>Saveforsavingfile. InputtinganotherVESpointdataalsothenextdataanalyzingwithIP2Wincanbedone afterrestartingIP2Winsoftware(thereisabuginIP2WinsoftwarethatappearedifIP2 WinSoftwareisnotrestarted.

Informationwindowwillappear.NcolumnonCoordinateTableisnumberofjoinedVESpoint.VES namescolumnisnameofeachVESpoint(canbechangedbyclickingtheVES_nameinVESnames column).XisdistancebetweenunitedVESpointsandZiselevationofeachVESpoints.

ChooseArraytypefromthejoineddataasexampleSchlumberger(Chosenarraymustbesameasthe firstchosenelectrodeconfiguration).ClickOKbutton.
