Multiple Regression: Group No 6 Niwas Kumar Sukanya Srivastava Pratyush Dube
Multiple regression allows analysis of a dependent variable's relationship to multiple independent variables. It can model nonlinear relationships and include both quantitative and qualitative independent variables. There are different methods for entering independent variables, such as standard entry where all are entered at once, hierarchical entry where variables are entered in a prescribed order, and stepwise entry where variables are entered based on their statistical contribution. The purpose of multiple regression is to better understand relationships between predictor and criterion variables through fitting a line to data points. It is mainly used for prediction and forecasting. The example variables given are unemployment rate and export as independent variables influencing GDP as the dependent variable. The regression equation for two explanatory variables is written as Y = α + β1X1 + β

analysis that may be appropriate whenever a quantitative variable (the dependent or criterion variable) is to be examined in relationship to any other factors (expressed as independent or predictor variables). Relationships may be nonlinear, independent variables may be quantitative or qualitative. DIFFERENT METHODS FOR ENTERING VARIABLES IN MULTIPLE REGRESSION Different types of multiple regression are distinguished by the method for entering the independent variables into the analysis.
In standard (or simultaneous) multiple regression, all of
the independent variables are entered into the analysis at the same.
In hierarchical (or sequential) multiple regression, the
independent variables are entered in an order prescribed by the analyst. Slide 2 IN STEPWISE (OR STATISTICAL) MULTIPLE REGRESSION, THE INDEPENDENT VARIABLES ARE ENTERED ACCORDING TO THEIR STATISTICAL CONTRIBUTION IN EXPLAINING THE VARIANCE IN THE DEPENDENT VARIABLE.
NO MATTER WHAT METHOD OF ENTRY IS CHOSEN, A
MULTIPLE REGRESSION THAT INCLUDES THE SAME INDEPENDENT VARIABLES AND THE SAME DEPENDENT VARIABLES WILL PRODUCE THE SAME MULTIPLE REGRESSION EQUATION.
THE NUMBER OF CASES REQUIRED FOR STEPWISE
REGRESSION IS GREATER THAN THE NUMBER FOR THE OTHER FORMS. WE WILL USE THE NORM OF 40 CASES FOR EACH INDEPENDENT VARIABLE. PURPOSE OF MULTI REGRESSION
The general purpose of multiple regression is to
learn more about the relationship between several independent or predictor variables and a dependent or criterion variable. The general computational problem that needs to be solved in multiple regression analysis is to fit a straight line to a number of points. Mainly used for predicting and forecasting. VARIABLES – 1. Unemployment rate of Hungary 2. GDP of Hungary 3. Export of Hungary
• In these variable Unemployment rate and
export are independent from each other.
• GDP is dependent variable. It depends on
Unemployment rate and Export. REGRESSION EQUATION- The principles of Simple Regression Analysis can be extended to two or more explanatory variables.
