Officer Involved Shooting Update

Case: 2011-11582313

Date: Tuesday, May 31, 2011

Time: 10:48 p.m.

Location: 800 Block of East 8th Street

Arrested: 16 year old Juvenile Male

Deceased: Byron Carter, Black Male, 1-5-1991

The officer who was struck and injured by the vehicle, driven by a juvenile suspect,
has been identified as Jeffrey Rodriguez, a one year veteran with the Austin Police
Department. Officer Rodriguez was transported to University Medical Center at
Brackenridge, released, and is currently recovering from a leg injury.

Consistent with department policy, Officer Nathan Wagner, who fired at the suspect
vehicle, has been placed on administrative leave.

The deceased has been identified as Byron Carter and next of kin notified.

The juvenile suspect, a sixteen year old male, is currently in the hospital in police
custody, recovering from his injuries with felony charges pending.
