Week 1: Whole to part relationships

The students will understand the meaning of fraction as related to equal proportions and
will use these concepts to solve problems.

Discussion: Jeff went shopping at the mall today. While shopping he decided to
get some lunch and stopped at the pizza stand. Each slice cost $2.25. It was Jeff’s
turn and two slices were left in the pan (see illustration below).

Which slice would you want and why?
