Logic Families Mukesh

This document provides an overview of different logic families used in computer engineering. It discusses the characteristics of logic families such as fan-in, fan-out, propagation delays and noise margin. It then describes several common logic families including Resistor-Transistor Logic (RTL), Diode-Transistor Logic (DTL), Transistor-Transistor Logic (TTL), Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor (CMOS) logic, and Emitter-Coupled Logic (ECL). It provides details on each family and compares their characteristics such as basic gate, power supply, fan-out, power dissipation, noise immunity, propagation delay and number of functions.

LOGIC FAMILIES – OVER VIEW
WHAT IS LOGIC FAMILIES

In computer engineering, a logic family may

refer to one of two related concepts
CHARSTICS OF LOGIC FAMILIES
 Fan in
 Fan out
 Propagation delays
 Noise margin
 Power dissipation
TYEPS OF LOGIC FAMILIES
 Resistor–transistor logic (RTL)
 Diode–transistor logic (DTL)
 Transistor–transistor logic (TTL)
 Complementary metal–oxide–semiconductor
logic (CMOS)
 Emitter-coupled logic
RESISTOR–TRANSISTOR LOGIC (RTL)

Resistor–transistor
logic (RTL) is a class
of digital circuits built
using resistors as the
input network and
bipolar junction
transistors (BJTs) as
switching devices.
DIODE–TRANSISTOR LOGIC (DTL)

 it is the direct ancestor of transistor–transistor logic .It

is called diode–transistor logic because the logic
gating function
TRANSISTOR–TRANSISTOR LOGIC (TTL)
 Transistor–transistor logic (TTL) is a class of digital
circuits built from bipolar junction transistors (BJT) and
resistors.
COMPLEMENTARY METAL–OXIDE–SEMICONDUCTOR LOGIC (CMOS)

 Complementary
metal–oxide–
semiconductor (CMOS)
is a technology for
constructing integrated
circuits.
 CMOS technology is
used in microprocessors,
microcontrollers, static
RAM, and other digital
logic circuits
EMITTER-COUPLED LOGIC
 Amplifier with single-ended input, whose emitter current is limited to
avoid the slow saturation region of transistor operation
