PROBLEM 1: dB math
Prove these:
1. Some power + 3 dB = double the power
2. Some power – 10 dB = one tenth the power

Ans:
1. Karena dalam dB pemjumlahan (+) sama dengan perkalian
1 mW = 0 dBm
2mW = 3 dBm
Jadi +3 dB = 0dB + 3dB
= 1 mW x 2 mw = 2mW
2. Karena dalam dB pengurangan (-) sama pembagian
1 mW = o dBm
10 mW = 10 dbm
Jadi -10 dB = 0dBm – 10 dBm = 1 mW / 10 mW = 0,1 mW

PROBLEM 2: Information theory


A numerical keypad has the digits 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9. Assume that probability of
sending any one digit is the same as that for sending any of other digits. Calculate how often the
buttons must be pressed in order to send out information at the rate of 2 bits/s.

Ans:
M= 10, Pj = 1/10 , j= 1.10 , R= H/T = 2 bits/sec
H = (-10x 1ln 1 )/ ln 2 = 3,322 bits
T = H/T = 3,322 / 2 = 1,66 bits/sec
PROBLEM 3: AM signal
If x ( t ) = cos 200π t , find the bandwidth and power transmitted for the AM modulated signal

assuming Ac = 10 and µ = 0.6 . Repeat for DSB transmission.

Ans:
ωm = 200 π ωm = 2π fm 200π = 2π fm fm= 100 Hz
W= 2xfm W= 2x100 W = 200 Hz in AM

Pc = 0,5 x A c Pc= 0,5x 100 Pc = 50
Psb <= 0,5 Pc Psb <= 0,5 x 50 Psb,= 25 in AM
St = Pc + 2Psb St= 50+ 2x25 St= 100 KW

PROBLEM 4: AM signal
Calculate the transmitted power of AM wave with 100 percent tone modulation and peak
envelope power 32 kW.

Ans:
A2 max = 32 KW A2max=A2 c = 32 KW
Pc= A2 c / 2 = 32/2= 16 KW
Because in AM with µ=1 0r 100% so
Psb<= 0.5 Pc
Psb <= 0.5x 16 Psb<= 8 KW
St = Pc +2Psb
= 16+2x8
= 32 KW
