Casio Calc Regression

The document provides instructions for performing simple linear regression on four Casio calculator models using three example data points. It describes the steps to calculate summary statistics like means and standard deviations, regression coefficients like intercept and slope, and predicted values. The instructions vary slightly between models but generally involve entering the data, using shift and menu keys to access stored values and calculations, and obtaining the regression results.

Simple Linear Regression on the Casio calculators.

The Casio calculators that are allowed in Heriot-Watt exams provide facilities for the calculation
of simple regression. Aditional features are described in the manuals which are available
from: http://support.casio.com/manual.php?rgn=2&cid=004
The instructions below summarise the regression calculations for four fx-85 Casio models - the
fx-83 models are used in a similar way. In each case, it is assumed that there are three pairs
(x, y) of values:
P (2, 4),
P (3, 5), (7,
P 6)2 P P 2
For these: x = 12, y = 15, x = 62, xy = 65 y = 77
x̄ = 4, ȳ − 5, Sxx = 14, Sxy = 5, Syy = 2, sx = 2.646, sy = 1.000
â = 3.57, b̂ = 0.357, r = 0.945, ŷ = â + b̂ 6 = 5.714
Students can use these to check that they understand how to use their own calculators.

Switch to linear Regression mode: MODE 2 2

This creates two columns labelled x and y.
Enter 2, 3, 7 in the x column and 4, 5, 6 in the y column.

To return to the main screen after entering the data, press: AC
