HSDPA Throughput Formula Mapping Proposal For Italy VDF

The document proposes changes to Huawei's HSDPA throughput formula mapping for Italy VDF. There are differences between Huawei and ALU's definitions, as Huawei's counter includes time when data is buffered but not scheduled. Analysis of counter data from Italy VDF found ratios of unscheduled data over 10%. Trace data provided an example of unreliable uplink quality preventing scheduling. It is proposed to deduct the inactive data time ratio from Huawei's formula to match ALU's definition of only including scheduled time.

1 Background Description

The analysis of the Counter data from Italy VDF indicates that the Counter item

VS.HSDPA.InactiveDataTtiRatio.Mean is higher than normal, inTable 1. Sometimes this ratio

reaches higher than 10%. There need explanations for this situation that data is present but no

scheduling.

2 Difference Analysis

For Huawei, VS.DataTtiRatio.Mean is defined as follow:

VS.DataTtiRatio.Mean = 1000*∑[VS.DataTtiNum]/∑[VS.MeanTtiNum] is the average time

ratio of the HSDPA UE queues which have data to be transmitted in the cell. It includes the time

even if the data is presented in buffer but not actually scheduled.

While as in ALU’s description, the counter VS_HsdpaTTIsUsed is the number if TTIs containing

at least one scheduled UE. It means VS_HsdpaTTIsUsed only update itself only when data is

scheduled.

This makes the difference between Huawei and ALU on the definition of the HSDPA throughput.

In order to prove that the case for data buffered but not scheduled, CDT trace was performed.

Take one case when UE is not scheduled for example, the yellow part above is the time when the

UE is indicated as the uplink channel quality unreliable and stops scheduling. One second after

that, the uplink lost synchronization as shown below.

It’s easy to prove that the uplink channel quality was bad at that time. And it is reasonable that

UTRAN did not schedule data of that UE.

3 Conclusion

Huawei has a counter in NodeB, which is available in RAN12, that count the time when the data is
buffered but not scheduled, namely VS.HSDPA.InactiveDataTtiRatio.Mean. The detailed
description is as below:

VS.HSDPA.InactiveDataTtiRatio.Mean=1000 * ∑[VS.HSDPA.InactiveDataTtiNum]/

∑[VS.MeanTtiNum] is the average time ratio of the HSDPA UE queues which have data to be

transmitted but no PHY transmission in the cell, which means data is buffered but no scheduling.

Therefore, we propose that:

 There is a difference between ALU and Huawei’s HSDPA throughput formula.

 It is proposed to deduct the VS.HSDPA.InactiveDataTtiRatio.Mean, which count the time

data is buffered but not scheduled, from Huawei’s formula and make it as:

sum ( VS.DataTtiRatio.Mean - VS.HSDPA.InactiveDataTtiRatio.Mean)
