Early Life
She was the daughter of the King and Queen of Troy,
Priam and Hecuba. Cassandra had a twin brother named
Helenus. Stories say that one night she and Helenus spent
the night in Apollo’s temple in Troy as tradition calls for. The
next morning, when their parents came to check on them,
snakes were surrounding them and flicking their tongues into
the children’s ears. Because of this, Cassandra and Helenus
were able to see and predict the future.

Adult Life
When Cassandra grew up, she became a
priestess of Apollo and his head prophetess in
the Trojan temple. Apollo became infatuated
with her and attempted to woo her. She
refused him, which angered Apollo. For
punishment, he cursed poor Cassandra so that
no one would believe her prophecies and would
mistake it for madness. This curse stuck with
her for her entire life except for when Paris
returned to Troy. Cassandra identified him as
her brother.
The Trojan War
Cassandra spent most of the War
locked in a tower. She had predicted
lots of misfortunes of Troy (Hector’s
death, Trojan horse), but her prophesies
were taken as “the ranting of a
madwoman” and King Priam locked her up.

After the Horse
While the Greek army was rampaging Troy,
Cassandra took shelter in the Temple of Athena.
Ajax the Lesser found her there and took her to
Agamemnon as a spoil of war. Agamemnon made
her his consort and she had twin sons, Teledamus
and Pelops, with him. When Agamemnon returned
to Mycenae, Cassandra was with him. Upon their
arrival, Agamemnon’s wife, Clytemnestra, killed
them both. Clytemnestra’s consort Aegisthus
killed the boys.
