Create a Website
Creating a website may seem to be a complicated process requiring good amount of
technological know-how. But let me tell you the secret. It’s damn easy. You don’t require any
coding knowledge to create a website. If you are a normal internet user, you can do it. And this is
made so easy by the powerful Content Management System (CMS) called WordPress.

How to create a website in WordPress


In this tutorial we will try to keep things short and simple – in fact, so simple that it may not at
all look like a tutorial. So, here’s how to create a website in WordPress in 5 easy steps.

1. Register a domain name

You can register a domain for 1 year initially and then renew it every year. It will cost you
around $10 to $15 per year. Buy a domain now.

2. Buy a webhosting account

A good webhosting account may cost you anywhere between $5 to $10 per month. See to it that
you buy a hosting account powered with cPanel and Fantastico. Also ensure that it meets the
CGI/database and other technical requirements to create a website in WordPress. You can buy a
WordPress compliant webhosting account here.

3. Set up the name servers

When you buy a webhosting account, you will receive an email containing your server details. It
will contain minimum 2 server IPs (called name servers). Login to your domain account and
enter the server details. Allow some time for your server details to propogate across the internet
– it usually takes a few hours but in some cases, may take up to 72 hours (max).

4. Install WordPress

Login to your webhosting account using the login details sent by your webhosting provider. Go
to fantastico in your cPanel and install WordPress. Don’t be afraid, it’s sorta ‘click and install’.

5. Login to your WordPress admin panel

WordPress login URL for your website would be: http://yourdomainname/wp-admin (replace
‘yourdomainname’ in the URL with your actual domain name. For example, if your domain
name is xyz.com, then your login URL would be: http://xyz.com/wp-admin)
That’s it. You are done. Whenever you want to make some changes to your website, all you need
to do is login to the WordPress admin panel and get into action.
