1. Write an essay of 120 to 150 words on any One of the following topics:-

ii) My Last Day at School
iii) Importance of Computer in the Modern Life

2. Write an application to the Director of School Education for the post of a teacher.
OR (8)
Write a letter to your friend telling him/her what you did during the summer vacation.
OR
Write a dialogue between two friends discussing the consequences of foreign economic
aid or water shortage in the country.

3. Do as directed:- (15)
i) The rising sun is worshiped by everyone.
(Change the voice.)

8. Read the following passage and answer the given questions:- (5)
Often men without worth or merit gain popularity. They please masses by appealing to
their sentiments. Somebody praises them. Then others praise them. Thus they become
popular. The masses are brainless, they blindly follow others. They don't have time and
intelligence to test the merit of others. Persons without merit often get popularity by
continuous propaganda. Against this person of merit often fails to get popularity because
they do not flatter people to please them nor do they carry on propaganda to gain
popularity.
i) What sort of people often gain popularity?

iii) Why does the writer say that masses are brainless?
iv) Why do people of merit often fail to gain popularity?
v) Write the adjective form of 'popularity' and the noun form of 'please'.

9. Write the summary of the following passage reducing it on third of its length:-
Reading is a welcome escape from dullness of daily life. It is an excellent recreation which
rich and poor alike can afford. Moreover a large number of public libraries makes reading
cheaper and easier than ever before. A man who has developed a taste for reading asks
nothing more of life, besides the means of physical well-being if he is provided with books
and time to read them. Reading of newspapers, history, geography, accounts of travels,
drama and above all fiction is a source of keen delight. Millions of men and women
nowadays find delight in reading.
