Facebook was founded in February 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg, Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, who were students at Harvard College at the time. Zuckerberg initially created Facemesh, which inspired him to develop Facebook, which was first called "TheFacebook" and launched for Harvard students in February 2004 before expanding to other universities and lowering its age requirements to become available to the general public aged 13 and older by September 2006.

-On Sept. 26’06, facebook was opened to everyone
of ages 13 and above and having a valid e-mail
id.
