The

internet is, quite literally, a network of networks. It is comprised of ten

thousands of interconnected networks spanning the globe. The computers
that form the Internet range from huge mainframes in research
establishments to modest PCs in people’s homes and offices. Despite the
recent hype, the Internet is not a new phenomenon. In the next five to ten
years I can truly see myself as having a role and future in the internet.

Millions of people worldwide are using the Internet to share

information, make new associations and communicate. Individuals and
businesses, from students to journalists, to consultants, programmers and
corporate giants are all harnessing the power of the Internet. For many
businesses the Internet has became essential to there operations. It has
became this way because of the ability to send and receive data such as:
messages, notes, letters, documents, pictures, video, sound and just about
any form of communication, as effortlessly as making a phone call.

Arguments can be made for the advantages and disadvantages of the

Internet, but most people will agree that the Internet is a bonus for
technology, the likes of which have not been seen since the arrival of
the Personal Computer. It is not a question of whether or not the
advantages of the Internet outweigh the disadvantages. Rather it is an
understanding of the risks and implications of pursuing the use of this type
of technology when working to achieve corporate strategic goals. Once the
security problems are handled, the costs are streamlined, and the
searching algorithms are perfected, the possibilities are endless.

Dear Susan,
40000, Shah Alam,
It feels like such a long time since the Selangor.
last time I saw you. I know it's only been
several weeks since I saw you. So far my February 23, 2011
summer has been great!

I spend my all my weekends at the beach. I am getting a nice tan

and you can no longer say I am paler than you. I have been playing lots of
volleyball, surfing and building a nice collection of sea shells. Just this past
weekend I took second place in a sandcastle building contest!

On the weekdays I work. I drive an ice cream truck around and sell
ice cream to the kids. It is so cool. It is a combination of the two things I
love most, ice cream and kids. The pay isn't too great but I love the job so
much.

I hope the summer's been going well for you too. There's only a
month and a half left in summer vacation and after that it's back to school.
Would you like to meet up some time to before school starts?

SMK TTDI Jaya held a grand National Day

celebration on 31st August this year at Kluang Stadium. History Club, as
the organiser had done a great job.

The celebration began with a march past by the school band. The
boys in the band put on red uniform and a cap. They played beautiful
music. Everyone applauded loudly when they entered the stadium and
walked past the audiences.

This was followed by the raising of Malaysian flag. Everyone stood up

5
straight and proudly sang our National Anthem and patriotic songs
accompanied by the music played by our talented school band.

Then, a few cultural shows were performed by a group of students.

They came up on a platform built in the middle of the stadium and danced
traditional dances like “zapin” and “inang” gracefully. Another group of
students also came up and sang some traditional songs like “ghazal” and
“lagu asli” sweetly.

The celebration ended with rhythmic gymnastics. Our school’s

gymnasts put up some of their gymnastic acts accompanied by classical
and modern music. They used colourful ribbons and hoops. It was
fascinating.

Everybody including our Education District Officer who came to give

closing speech was speechless. The National Day Celebration would not be
forgotten for many years to come.

The weekend of 27-29th July this year will forever be etched in the
minds of the 50 participants who attended the Integrated Leadership Camp
organised by the Co-curricular Unit of SMK Setia. The two-day two night
camp, held at Perimbun Resort, Cheras, some 20 miles away from the city
centre, was a compulsory activity for all presidents and secretaries of the
various clubs in school. The objectives of the camp were to instil leadership
qualities and improve teamwork among participants. Although the students
were accompanied by several teachers, all activities were conducted by
youth leaders from a local university.

Most of the students, who are in Form Four this year, were very
excited throughout the 45-minute journey to the campsite. Upon arrival,

6
they were immediately whisked off to the seminar room where they were
given a briefing on the rules and regulations at the campsite by the
facilitators. Then, they were put into groups of five and asked to erect their
own tents.

Luckily for my group, we had the President of the Scouts Club with
us. In no time, he had instructed us on how to put up the tent.
Unfortunately, some of the other groups were struggling with their tents
and seeing their dismal efforts some of us decided to help them.
Apparently, this was the first test of our teamwork skills and fortunately,
many of us passed with flying colours. After dinner, we had a group
dynamics activity, where we had to come up with names, logos and jingles
for our groups. Well, with names like the Flying Potters and Forever
Dumbledores, and jingles ranging from pop rock to jazz, the students of
SMK Setia proved that they are indeed a creative lot.

The second day of the camp started off with an early morning
exercise session at 5.30am. The two energetic facilitators, Tim and Ashraf,
took us through a rigorous exercise routine. Many of us who barely
exercise knew what to expect over the next few days – muscle cramps.
After the one-hour aerobic session, we jogged through Perimbun
town, which was a pale shadow of its daytime hustle and bustle. The early
morning exercise was invigorating and refreshing. We had enough time for
a quick shower and breakfast, before we took part in more group activities.

These activities were physically and mentally challenging. One of the

activities was basic survival skills. We had to start our own fires with only
two matchsticks and cook lunch for the group members. Using water from
the slightly muddy stream nearby, we had to cook not only rice but also
fish and vegetables. As no soap was made available to us, we learnt to
wash the cooking utensils using ash. Later in the afternoon, we had
activities like flying fox and abseiling. Through these activities, we learnt to
trust each other and to give moral support when it is most needed.

The highlight of the camp was a night hike in the surrounding jungle.
The facilitators led us deep into the jungle and made us sit all by ourselves.
The half hour spent alone was aimed at making us brave and resilient.

7
Though many of us were initially hesitant and sceptical about this activity,
it was indeed an insightful experience.

On the final morning, we had a hearty breakfast, which was followed

by a feedback session. During this session, we were given the opportunity
to voice our feelings and opinions regarding the camp. Many of the
participants gave constructive feedback on what the camp had taught
them. We learnt about the importance of teamwork, consideration,
tolerance and understanding. Most importantly, we learnt that good
leadership is responsible leadership.

Our house is along a busy road.In front of or house is a wall which runs
along the road. One night while we were watching TV we heard a loud
crash. It sounded like an explosion. We quickly rushed out to have a
look. We were shocked to see that two panels of the wall in front had
collapsed in a pile. The road was in full view. We could see many cars
slowing down and soon there was a traffic jam. We went to the road
and saw a car had smashed into the wall.

The engine of the car was on the road. The driver was still in the
car. Many people tried to get the driver out. Someone called the
ambulance. Soon we heard the siren of a police car and after that an

8
ambulance. A crowd soon gathered. The police tried to control the
traffic but curious drivers slowed down to have a look at the accident.
That made the traffic worse.

I heard people explaining what had happened. There were many

different explanations. Some said that the driver was drunk, other
said he was trying to avoid a cat and yet others said he was speeding
and skidded. Whatever the reason i felt sorry for the driver. The
ambulance took him to the hospital. No one knows whether he lived or
died. There was nothing in the newspapers the next day.

Dear Sir,

Unsatisfactory School Canteen

9
On behalf of the students of 5 Amanah, I would like to lodge a complaint
about the school canteen.

2. First and foremost, the food served is not covered and many flies can be
seen hovering over the food. This may lead to food poisoning. Moreover,
the canteen also serves stale food. The ‘nasi lemak’ turns bad by the time
the upper forms have their recess. Last week, a few of us had diarrhoea
after consuming food from the canteen.

3. Apart from that, the food is also too expensive. A small plate of fried
mee costs RM1.50 and many poor students cannot afford it. Besides that,
the canteen serves the same menu daily. The students are bored with fried
rice and fried mee every day.

4. Another complaint is that the cups and plates are oily and not washed
properly. The workers are also not appropriately attired although they have
been told to wear aprons and caps. Moreover, these workers are rude to
students. They shout at us and use foul language whenever they get
angry. They also do not clear the dustbins and rubbish daily. This is very
unhygienic. As a result, there is a foul stench whenever we eat in the
canteen.

5. Thus, we would like to suggest that the school authorities make

stringent checks on the canteen daily or weekly. They should also ensure
that the canteen serves a variety of food at a reasonable price.

We would like to appeal to your sense of fairness and hope prompt action
will be taken regarding these matters.

Yours faithfully,

(NORLISSA BT DUSUKI)

Matters In School That Need Improvement

There are some matters in our school that need to be improved. The prefects had
a meeting recently and we would like you to know about the following matters.

First the food prices in the school canteen are very expensive. As students, we
cannot afford to pay the high prices charged by the canteen operator. A bowl of fried
noodles costs RM 3.00 and there are no ingredients in it, only some vegetables. Drinks
are also expensive.

Secondly, the complaint is the out dated books in the school library. It is already
2009, but some of the books there were printed in the 1980’s. New books should be,
bought for students’ reference.

We would like to request for a bus in front of the school. Although the town bus
stops by the school, there is no bus stop. This is a problem during very hot days and

11
when it rains.

I hope you would consider these matters seriously and take appropriate action to
make the school a better place for all of us. Your kind consideration is greatly
appreciated.

FORM 5 CEKAL

Survey -  Excurions - Post PMR Programme

A survey was carried out among Form 3 students to find out who are
interested in going on a trip after the examination. The results indicate that
a total number of 100 students are interested. The three places suggested
for the trip are Putrajaya, Kuala Lumpur and Rantau Abang.

50 students are interested in visiting Putrajaya. They want to visit the
Administrative Centre, the Palace of Justice, the Putrajaya Mosque and the
Wetlands. They are willing to pay RM100.00 for the trip.

Another 30 students opt for Kuala Lumpur. They feel they should visit
the Planetarium, the Science Centre, KL Tower, Twin Towers and go
shopping at KLCC. Some think the cost of RM300.00 is a bit steep.

The last 20 students would not mind going to Rantau Abang to watch
the turtles lay eggs and frolic in the sun and on the beach. The cost is
about RM300.00.

12
Transport is by air-conditioned buses. However, they prefer not to be
provided with meals.  They suggest staying at schools that have hostel
facilities or in 3 -star hotels.

Finally, all 100 agree to go to Putrajaya for a day because it is a day trip
and it is the cheapest.  Most parents are not in favour of their children
staying overnight. They prefer their children to come back even though it
may be late. Besides, they suggest that the trip to Putrajaya be done on a
working day.

In conclusion, the students agree to leave for Putrajaya at 5.00 a.m.
and return by 10.00 pm. on the same day.

When was the last time you made a friend? A friend is someone who
is honest and you can trust. A friend is someone who you hang out with a
lot, and some one you rely on. Friendship is being there for someone when
they need you, and to have a common bond to have the freedom of
hanging out with each other and to be comfortable around each other. The
main ideas of friendship are honesty and trust, caring and having
similarities.

Without honesty and trust friendship wouldn’t last very long. The
definition of honesty is “quality and condition of being honest, integrity”.
Friendship would be held up by honesty. Trust is another important thing
that relates to honesty, your friends really need to trust you. Honesty and
trust are very important but so is caring.

You need to care for your friends so the relationship will last. The
definition for caring is to be concerned or interested for others. An example
of care is being there when someone really need you like during a bad
situation. You should also be supportive of your friends. The definition of

13
support is to take
sides with or
to provide
help. Even
though caring is
important so are similarities and similarities in interest.

Similarities in friendship will make the bond grow. The definition of

similarities is the quality or condition of being alike, resemblance. An
example of similarities is two friends liking the same kind of music.
Similarities in interests are things like a couple of friends liking the same
thing like music, hobbies and many other things. It would help by making
them want to do more things together.

Good friends will always use honesty and trust, caring and support,
and similarities in interest if they want their friendship to last. Good friends
never want say goodbye!

Good morning teachers and friends, I, Ahmad Khairi Hafiz as the President
of the Environment Club would like to talk about”How to Protect the
Environment”

First of all, each one of us can start by not littering. We should throw
our rubbish into the rubbish bin instead of anywhere we like. Once I went
strolling at a park nearby my house but was dissapointed at the sight of
rubbish.I saw many empty cans and plastic wrappers lying around. They do
not only spoil the beautiful park but they are the best breeding place for
aedes mosquitoes.

Another way of protecting our environment is by keeping our rivers

clean. We can play our role by not throwing rubbish into the rivers.
Meanwhile the factories can stop dumping their toxic waste into them.
Plastic wrappers which made up 80 percent of the rubbish can endanger

14
the fish and other aquatic lives while toxic waste can kill them. We, human
will consequently suffer as we rely on the rivers for food and water.

Moreover, farmers should avoid open burning in their farming

practice because it polutes the air.Open burning can lead to haze which
contains poisonous gases such as carbon dioxide and sulphur dioxide.
These gases can cause many serious diseases. Children who breathe the
polluted air may suffer from asthma and some people may even suffer
from rashes and eye-diseases.

Finally, we can practice the 3R; Reuse, Reduce and Recycle. Every
household should aim at reducing the amount of rubbish thrown. To
achieve this aim ,each member of the household can refuse plastic carriers
when he goes shopping. He can bring a recyclable carrier or a special
shopping bag.The household members can even reuse some items like
glass jar as a vase and cans as coin box or as a pen holder.Old newspapers
can also be recycled into new papers or reused in paper crafting. If
"Reuse,Reduce and Recycle" are put into practice ,the amount of rubbish
thrown and the amount of energy used to produce some of the recyclabe
items can indeed be reduced.

Clearly, each one of us can contribute towards the conservation of

our environment and our efforts should be continuous.Protecting our
environment means ensuring the existence of our future generation. With
that, I thank you.

15
Air pollution is actually the addition of any harmful substances to the
atmosphere, which causes the damaging of the environment, human
health and the quality of life. With the development in industry, came
along the increase in air pollution, which occurs inside homes, schools,
offices even in the countryside.

Consequently there has been an increase in the death rates resulting

from various diseases caused by air pollution varying from breathing
problem to lung cancer. Air pollution does not only affect people but it also
damages the whole ecological system in which plants and animals are
harmed as well. Air pollution has reached such a critical stage where it
affects the earth's atmosphere as it lets in more harmful radiation from the
sun. Consequently, our polluted atmosphere is becoming a better insulator,
thus, preventing heat from escaping back into space. That is why there is a
global rise in temperature which scientists refer to as " global warming". As
a result of this rise in temperature the world food supply and sea level will
be affected, also there is the probability of increase in the tropical disease.

Suspended dust is considered the major air pollution problems in

Egypt. As a result of the success of this program USAID and the Egyptian
16
government included the wide spread introduction of the vehicle tune-ups,
combined with a vehicle emissions testing programs as one objective of the
Cairo air improvement project (caip) which began implementations in 1997.
Last developed nations come hoping for economic growth are less
enthusiastic about pollution controls. This is caused by increase in green
house gases: burning coal and fuels derived from oil. Inspite of that,
several reported international agreements have been reached. Before the
automobile, most smog came from the burning of coal; today the main
source of smog is the burning of gasoline by motor vehicles. Unlike
pollutants from human activity, however, naturally occurring pollutants
remain in the atmosphere a short time and do not lead permanent
atmospheric change. Other pollutants include nitrous oxide from fertilizers
and the pesticide methyl bromide also attacks the ozone layer. New efforts
to control air pollution will be vital as long as these trends continue. Finally,
volcanoes give out sulfur dioxide and volcanic ash; a big volcanic eruption
can darken the sky over a wide region and affect the earth's atmosphere.
Burning fossil fuels, natural gases, coal and oil, factories and motor
vehicles all emit harmful substances.
