Experiment Title: Aggregate Impact Value Test
Experiment Title: Aggregate Impact Value Test
Experiment Title: Aggregate Impact Value Test
EXPERIMENT PURPOSE :
To
determine value aggregate impact is needed in the design us
es a mixture of various pavement layers.
3. Trays
4. Rod packing
5. Rubber pounder
6. Bristle brush
7. Weighing
PROSEDURE
1. Aggregate samples are sieved using a sieve 14mm and 10mm. The
aggregate sample must be dried in the oven no more than 4 hours at a
temperature of 105 (approximately 5ºc). Aggregate to
be tested must pass a 10mm sieve.
6. Remove samples from the steel bowl using a rubber pounder and put in
the tray. Bristle brush is used to produce the
samples. Sample weights to the nearest 0.1g (M1).
7. 2.36mm sieved samples using a sieve so that there is no sample that can
pass
through the sieve. Sample weights are passed sieve (M2) and the retaine
d (M3) to the nearest 0.1g. If the total mass (M2 + M3) is different from
the M1 more than 1g ignore the results and run tests on other samples.
DETAILS MASS(g)
The aggregate + mass of the 1127.0
mold
Mass of the mold 826.0
Mass sample passing the 321.4
2.36mm sieve + pan
Mass of pan 263.90
Mass sample left at 2.36mm 663.50
(retained)
Mass of the specimen M1 301
M2 57.5
M2 243.4
Total mass (M2+M3) 300.9
(M2+M3) – M1 AIV=57.5/301*100
300.9-301=0.1g =19.10%

REPORT
DISSCUSION
Chief advantage of aggregate impact test is that test
equipment and the test procedure are quite simple and it
determines the resistance to impact of stones simulating
field condition.
The test can be performed in a short time even at
construction site or at stone quarry, as the apparatus is
simple and portable.
