SYDE 292 Sample Exam Questions #1B Questions

This document contains 4 sample exam questions for a circuit analysis course. Question 1 asks to find a resistor value to make an equivalent circuit resistance and calculates voltage drop percentage. Question 2 asks to find the load resistance for maximum power dissipation given a voltage source with internal resistance. Question 3 uses superposition to find the current through a resistor given two voltage sources. Question 4 asks for the Thevenin equivalent circuit and power provided with a matched load.

SYDE 292 Sample Exam Questions #1B

Questions:
1. For the circuit shown below at left, find the value of R` such that the complete circuit has an
equivalent resistance R.
By what percentage is the voltage drop across the resistor R decreased by the inclusion of the R`
resistors?

2. For the voltage source shown above at right, with source resistance Rs, find the load resistance (as a
function of Rs) which results in maximum power disiation across the load. (Note: P = i2 RL )
3. In the circuit shown below at left, use the superposition principle to find the current I1 through the 10
Ω resistor as a function of V1 and V2.
If V1 = 10V and V2 = 5V, what is the partial current in the 10Ω resistor due to each source?

4. What is the Thevenin equivalent circuit for the circuit shown above at right?
If a resistor equal to the Thevenin equivalent reistance is place across A and B,
what power is the 20V source providing?
