Abstract:

The project delivers the basic and the different types of offshore
platforms since the beginning and how the technology has
improved in the oil and gas field. As time goes by, due to the
increased number of accidents, safety has attained primary
importance in any offshore platform. One after the other this has
led to a set of rules and regulations that are mandatory and are to
be followed for all the said task specific procedures under any
circumstances, failure of which might be hazardous to the
personnel and the environment we are working on. The project
highlights on safety standards to be followed while performing
various tasks.

Various topics discussed in our project are:

I. Introduction to offshore drilling and various oil platforms

II. Mechanical lifting:

 Maintenance and use of various lifting equipments
 Crane and other lifting operations.
 Lifting operation plan.
 Duties and responsibilities of a Banksman
III. Permit to work:
 Objectives and functions
 Validity of PTW
 Hazardous operations such as:
 Hot work
 Welding and oxygen/acetylene cutting
 Firewatcher

IV. Confined space entry:

 Equipments used.
 Ventilation of confined spaces
 Hot work in confined spaces

V. Fall protection:
 Policies and procedures
 Methods of fall protection
 Fall protection systems and personal protective
equipment.
 Fall arrest systems.

VI. Hazardous materials:

 Material safety data sheet
 Marking and storage
 Working with different hazardous materials
 S.H.I.P. Manifest

VII. Energy sources and isolation:

 Different energy sources
 Standard isolation process
 Standard de-isolation process
 Energy isolation certificate

VIII. Think planning process

IX. Task planning process

X. Start planning process

The project has been completed successfully. The project has been
developed taking into account, the relevance of practical industrial
application. The need to develop the project technically feasible
and economically viable to our outmost level has been successful.

The major gain in the project apart from the concept and setup is
the implementation of safety measures and the need for safety in
working environment and the personnel working in it.
