I am suffering from polio in my right leg since childhood.

When I was in the third year of


my engineering program, I met with a major accident and my polio affected leg got
fractured. I had to undergo an operation. It happened 20 days before my semester
exams which were to be followed by the placements process. My doctors suggested me
to take rest and not to strain myself for next one month. I was in an ambiguous situation
where I have to choose between my career and health. I have chosen my career.

Initially I was really uncertain about what to do, and also I was worrying about my
health, because doctor told me if I strain myself it may give problem to my leg. But I
took risk, prepared myself mentally, did lots of exercise, and also prepared for exams
and placements. Finally, I appeared for exams as well as got placed in Tata
Technologies through which I got opportunity to work at Tata Motors, Pune, which is
one of the dream companies for most mechanical engineers.

One who is passionate about his goal, do hard work to achieve it and have will power to
face as well as overcome obstacles and uncertainty will be successful in life.

 
During my Stint at Tata Motors, Product Data Management department I was a part of
team where every weekend we had meeting with our customers (designer). In the
meeting we used to call designers from all departments, one person from our team will
go for meeting in rotational basis. It created lots of confusion in communication.

I thought all of us should go for meeting every weekend to reduce the complexity. So I
came up with an idea, where instead of calling all departments together divided the
departments and one person from team allotted for each department and should meet
them every weekend. Initially my team members were reluctant to do it, they thought it
will increase their work load, But I persuaded them that it will actually reduce complexity
and make our job easy. My idea worked out well and team’s improvement in
performance was appreciated by our customers as well as our boss.

My learning from above situation, if there is no proper communication and transparency


in project it is very difficult to work with team. Also when you face some problem and
come with idea you have to put lot of effort to convince others to agree with your idea. I
will use and follow my learning if I get same kind of problem in future.
My personal improvement area in last one year is time management. Actually I was a
poor manager when it comes to time. But when I started preparing for my MBA entrance
exam I realized the importance of time management, because I have to manage my
time between my work and my preparation.

I started working efficiently in office to finish my task in time so that I can come home
and study for exam. In the night before I go to sleep I started preparing plan sheet for
next day and implemented the plan most of the time. It improved my concentration in
whatever work I do. Because of my hard work and plan I was able to manage my time
between my studies and work.

I thought I achieved my objective when I got admission in FMS. But after coming to
FMS I realized I have to do more hard work and time management to live in a B school
as well as take up a management level position in a organization. Four months busy life
in FMS gave me a lot of learning about time management.
