Math 1040 Written Report

The document summarizes a study that examined the potential correlation between wedding costs and number of guests. Data was collected through surveys asking people about their wedding costs and attendance. Analysis of the data using statistical measures like mean, standard deviation, and histograms showed little correlation between the two variables. The conclusion is that based on the data collected, there is no clear correlation between how much is spent on a wedding and the number of people who attend.

Written Report

Purpose:
Our purpose was to find out if there is a correlation between how much
people spend on a wedding and how many people are invited to that
wedding.

Study Design:
Our study design was to ask people at our work and school how many
people came to their wedding and how much it cost.

Difficulties and Surprises Encountered
It was surprisingly difficult for me to get people to open
up about how much their wedding cost. The only other
difficulty I faced was that Excel 2008 does not support
histograms or scatterplots with linear regressions.
Analysis
There doesn’t seem to be much of a correlation between how
much people spend on their wedding and how many people
attended. It seemed as though most of the scatterplot was
made up of outliers.
Conclusion
We cannot with any certainty say that there is a
correlation between the amount people spend on their
wedding and the amount of people that attend.
