    THE BRIEF: To create a music video, magazine


    advertisement and a Digipak.

    SYNOPSIS: Teenager reminiscing life. Teenage girl


    runs away after an argument and re-discovers her broken past.

    TARGET AUDIENCE: Our core audience is female 15 – 24 as we


    have a female protagonist dealing with issues of teenage
    relationships. Our secondary audience is male 15-34 as we have an
    older band between 20- 30 and she is wearing a short dress to
    appeal to the male gaze.

    GENRE: Concept, intercut with performance or with performance


    within the diagetic world. There will be lots of tracking shots of the
    band which are nearly always 2 shots with the lead singer the
    prominence of the shots. Close up shots to show off the bands
    instrumental talent. They are dressed in casual modern and fashionable
    clothing which is either colorful if the song is happy or black and grey if the
    song is sad. The narratives often replicate movies. For example the diving
    tournament in Sum 41’s In Too Deep follows the same idea of geek verses
    jock as you’d find in a teen Rom Com. The concept videos tend to depict
    the questions of identity faced by 15 – 34 year olds this genre’s target
    audience. The Young Guns video Weight of the World involves the band
    playing out in the open with the lead singer stood on top of a train
    track.

    LINKS TO GENRE: The costume of the protagonist


    links to The Paramore video ‘Emergency’ . The running
    away idea comes from the Young Guns video weight of
    the World. The letter idea comes from the Letters to
    You video by Finch. The train track idea comes from
    the Young Guns Weight of the World Video. The
    disappearing people idea comes from the Winter Kiss
    video by Young Guns. The video follows the alternative rock narrative conventions of
    following a film like convention in being social realistic. However it is also a question of
    identity for the protagonist as you would find in concept based videos.

    LINKS TO GENRE:
    CAST: We have one central protagonist and we have the actress for that. We also have
    boyfriend, older relative and friend roles.

    MISE-EN-SCENE: Due to our video being a social realistic we will not need much mise-
    en-scene. But, what we will need is a rucksack, a lot of photos of happy childhood
    times, a mirror and some bottles.

    LOCATIONS: We have a variety of locations. The beginning of the video is at lucy’s


    house, from their it moves along crossbeck road, down cowpasture road, around the
    park, throughout Ilkley, on a bridge and ends up at the train station.

    COSTSUMES: The costume is similar to the one on


    Hayley Williams (lead singer of Paramour) in their video
    ‘Emergency’. It is a hand fitted white dress with multiple
    layers. We chose white to signify innocence and purity.
    The girl will also wear white
    tights and pumps. She will need a
    bag with her and this too will be
    white or pale. We also have an
    intertextual link to My Chemical Romance video ‘I Don’t Love
    You’ because of the costume. The woman is in white and the
    man in black, in this video the man breaks up with the woman
    and she starts to cry black tears.

    MAKE-UP: She will have a pale face with dark eyes (with eyeliner and mascara) this is
    a link to the audience who are well known for their eye make-up and pale skin. It also
    signifies innocence and goes against the stereotypical western image of beauty.
